Joris

Joris’ career at Supratec

"I arrived at Supratec in 2014 with a fixed-term contract lasting a few months as a Warehouse Worker. I had intended to continue my studies as part of a student-apprenticeship, so I asked Supratec. They then offered me a position as an IT Maintenance Assistant for a duration of 2 years. And I became an Operation Engineer under a permanent contract in 2017."

A few words about his profession

"I design, maintain and secure the Supratec information system. I assist and train users. And I oversee the correct application of procedures."

His daily routine

"When I arrive in the morning, I check that no servers have fallen over during the night, and that the safeguards and night-time processing have run smoothly.
I also consult the GLPI tickets (requests and incidents alerts) and speak to associates in order to resolve their problems.
At the same time, I’m in charge of a certain number of projects each year, which I continue once I’ve completed my daily tasks. For example, I worked on a ticketing tool to reassemble user bugs, and the implementation of procedures for both users (email archiving) and our IT service (network infrastructure outlines or firewall configuration)."

His most memorable project

"I've just completed it! It’s the migration of our messaging service, which standardised the entire infrastructure in order to simplify its management.
It was a massive work site which involved the modification of many elements linked to the network infrastructure: changing domain controller due to a compatibility issue, changing DNS servers, and so on."

His next challenge

"It’s every day, my normal day is a challenge!
I have to make myself available to my colleagues to find solutions for each requirement.
Also, I’m responsible for the proper functionality of the global infrastructure. Therefore, I ensure that I’m on constant technological watch in order to improve the systems with the available tools and made everyone’s daily work easier. As soon as there’s a bug, everyone is affected!"

A final word from Joris

"In order to make progress, I need 2 things:
- being in constant pursuit of improvement, both on a professional level and in my manner of being
- having associates recognise my availability and methods I put into place. It's important to know that I provide real solutions for everyone’s benefit.
I need to be in contact with others, and I think that it’s thanks to that that I’m invested in my work."
